Product details

The topic of housing currently shapes debates in politics and urban planning. However, its significance in everyday life remains largely unaddressed, and social work as a profession is surprisingly uninvolved. Seemingly detached from this, community housing projects are gaining increasing support, being positively associated with societal changes and now also politically protected. How and in what ways people experience gains for their living arrangements remains scientifically unexplored so far. This book addresses this gap and highlights the coping and design capabilities of residents in the face of late modern boundary dissolution, self-responsibility, and insecurities. As a subject-oriented housing research, it adopts a biographical perspective within a praxeological and socio-spatial understanding of housing. It focuses on everyday actions in housing under the social, spatial, and structural conditions of the housing projects. Relevant aspects include not only social housing provision and the benefits of collective everyday design but also the processes of appropriation that can strengthen participation interests, among other things.
