Game Time

Patrick Fischer describes the moment he stood next to the Christmas tree in full hockey gear at the age of three as "pure childhood happiness." Shortly thereafter, he was allowed to join EV Zug, just like his older brother Marco, and he remained loyal to the team for many years. At the comparatively mature age of thirty – by then, he was already one of the most successful ice hockey players in Switzerland – he made his mark in the toughest hockey league in the world, the North American National Hockey League. His retirement from professional sports in 2009 was as surprising as his rise to head coach of the Swiss national ice hockey team six years later. Throughout his journey, he faced numerous challenges, despite seemingly effortless successes that won him the hearts of fans and the respect of competitors and teammates alike. He experienced failures and triumphs, received harsh criticism and high praise. However, the most significant aspect of his journey was his discovery of spirituality – and ultimately, of himself.
