After Spirit and Nature. Gregory Bateson worked on this book, which he was unable to complete during his lifetime, and it was finished by his daughter Mary Catherine. Starting from what we know about the biological world, as well as what we can understand about "knowing," Bateson aims to explain what might be understood by "the sacred." In addition to "the sacred," two other "integrative experiential dimensions" play an important role: that of the "aesthetic" and that of "consciousness." It is this constellation of problems that, according to Bateson, must be addressed if one wishes to arrive at a theory of action in the living world - a cybernetic ethics.
