Parents, teachers, and educators are well aware of the issues surrounding children with ADHD. However, it is often not recognized that there is a fairly large group of children whose behavior can sometimes be similarly noticeable, yet they do not belong to the group of "ADHD kids." They are misunderstood, both when treated like ADHD children and when expected to behave and react "normally." Although often very intelligent, many are unable to perform, for example, in a noisy environment or under pressure. Some unnecessarily become school failures. This is by no means a marginal phenomenon; rather, about 15-20% of children are highly sensitive. We should recognize this high sensitivity and give our affected children the attention and time they need to thrive.
