Wismar

Even from afar, mighty Gothic brick churches bear witness to the former wealth of the old Hanseatic city of Wismar. But it is only when you stand directly in front of St. Marien, St. Nikolai or St. Georg that you feel their dimension and the greatness of medieval architecture. Hanjo Volster has succeeded in capturing these impressions with his photographs, but not only the historical sights of the listed old town are presented in this portrait, but also the modern sides of the port city. Thus the view wanders from the magnificent secular buildings - for example the "Old Sweden" of 1380 or the classicistic town hall - across the Old Port to modernities such as the new shipbuilding hall or the "Hafencenter".
