In the course of the current financial and economic crisis, economics and its role in society have come under heavy criticism. The most successful publication in this respect is Joseph Vogl's volume "Das Gespenst des Kapitals" (The Specter of Capital). Not only does he formulate a fundamental critique of the economic science mainstream, but he also succeeds in embedding this critique in a far-reaching historical narrative and elegantly coupling this with the question of how the economic sciences themselves still have a transformative effect on their object field. This book brings together texts that engage with central lines of argument and material findings in Vogl, take them further, or even function as a corrective.
