Economic philosophy - in the face of globalisation and acute crises - is one of the most topical disciplines of philosophy today. The fund from which it can draw is surprisingly large: since ancient times, philosophers have pondered the nature and meaning of economic activity, the functions of property, money and the market, but also the ethical limits of economics. Thomas Sören Hoffmann's philosophy of economics traces the history of philosophical reflection on basic economic contexts from Plato and Aristotle to Thomas Aquinas and the Reformation Age, right up to the classic economic thinkers of modern times such as Adam Smith, Fichte, Hegel, Marx, Georg Simmel, Max Weber and others. At the same time, it familiarizes the reader with the most important economic-ethical approaches, as they are used in today's debates on the compatibility of economic activities.
