Mastering Economic Challenges

Global prosperity has significantly increased over the past 150 years, largely thanks to the contributions of economic science. However, there is still much work to be done today. On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the Association for Social Policy invited 21 of its members to provide brief contributions explaining how economic thinking can help address societal challenges.

How we can solve current challenges

Since its founding in 1873, the Association for Social Policy has made it its mission to discuss issues related to the economy and society in both written and spoken form, thereby contributing to social and economic policy. "Understanding Economics, Shaping the Future" is the collection of texts published for the association's 150th anniversary, featuring selected contributions on pressing contemporary issues. The wide-ranging topics cover aspects such as sustainability, globalization, digitalization, climate change, as well as demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers. The texts address current questions regarding the welfare state and consider Germany, the EU, and the global economy. The authors provide economic solutions based on concrete examples.
