Storytelling

Storytelling is undoubtedly one of the fundamental linguistic actions of humans. Throughout history, stories have been told, and in all cultures, storytelling occurs. This KEGLI volume focuses specifically on everyday oral storytelling. We explore the questions of what constitutes storytelling and what characteristics and properties can be associated with it. In this context, oral storytelling is also contrasted with written storytelling. Furthermore, we examine the modalities and functions of storytelling. Finally, we address the acquisition of storytelling skills and their teaching. Thus, we consider storytelling from conversation analytic, psycholinguistic, and didactic perspectives. These connections are illustrated through over 30 transcripts of authentic stories from various research contexts.
