A unique picture book rich in examples of the key soil types. The focus is on the forest areas of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. For each soil profile, comprehensive data on over 40 soil characteristics are provided, clearly presented and interpreted. Along with comments on tree growth and forest management, these soil documents offer valuable insights for practical application. The soil profiles, some of which were specifically recorded for this book (humus layer and mineral soil), serve as a good support for on-site soil assessment. Standardized soil science methods, which are explained in detail in the commentary section, allow for a quick comparison of soils. Especially in light of the current debate about the potential impacts of climate change on forestry and carbon storage in forests, forest soil is at the center of interest.
