It was the biggest secret leak in history: On November 28, 2010, the whistleblowing platform WikiLeaks, in collaboration with the British newspaper "The Guardian," the "New York Times," "Der Spiegel," and others, began publishing a quarter of a million secret reports from American embassies and the U.S. State Department. The world's greatest powers were in an uproar. Behind it all was one man, the Australian Julian Assange—a figure among the strangest to ever gain global prominence: Internet messiah or cyber-terrorist? Champion of information freedom or sexual criminal? The debate over WikiLeaks and Assange, who sought asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in June 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden, continues to this day.
