Those who are seriously ill should have a say in their treatment and be able to incorporate their values and wishes into it. If the affected person suddenly becomes unable to make decisions, the treatment team and family members face difficult choices. Advance Care Planning (ACP) can clarify such situations and relieve all those involved. ACP is a tool for patients that allows them to clearly and understandably articulate their expectations regarding treatment in writing. In a conversation with an expert, an advanced living will is created, which is a type of enhanced living will. This enables the treatment team and family members to better implement the presumed wishes of the affected person.
