Product details
The field of close-range photogrammetry has become increasingly important in recent years due to the growing use of digital image acquisition and analysis. Today, cameras are an integral part of countless measuring devices and systems. The largely automated analysis of digital measurement images enables economical and precise recording of virtually any three-dimensional objects in both static and dynamic applications. In many areas, photogrammetry has matured into a recognized and efficient 3D measurement method.
Although photogrammetry has been known for around 160 years and has always been characterized by a wide range of close-range applications, it still appears to many non-photogrammetrists to be a very complex process. Especially in architecture, engineering, and industrial applications, the possibilities and limitations of photogrammetry are often not sufficiently understood. A sufficient understanding of the process requires basic knowledge of optics, recording technology, equalization calculation and transformations, digital image processing, CAD methods, as well as evaluation procedures and systems. Without this knowledge, it is almost impossible to make informed decisions on the sensible use of close-range photogrammetry in practice.
After an introduction, the book goes into detail on mathematical principles, imaging technology including illumination and signaling, orientation and 3D reconstruction methods, image processing, evaluation and measurement systems, planning and optimization issues, and various typical areas of application. The book is aimed at students and practitioners of measurement technology but can also provide valuable information for developers and scientists from a wide range of disciplines. Numerous illustrations and examples allow even the non-specialist reader to gain a well-founded insight into close-range photogrammetry.
