Product details

Author's text
George Steiner, born in 1929 in Paris, taught comparative literary history in Geneva and Cambridge. Since 1994, he has been a professor of comparative literature at the University of Oxford (Lord Weidenfeld Chair).

Blurb
George Steiner presents a brilliant essay, a variation in ten sentences on the glory and misery of thought. What happens in our minds when we begin to ponder? Is it possible to think "straightforwardly"? And is it a cause for despair that even in moments of greatest intimacy, one cannot grasp the thoughts of a loved one?.
