Reading in tandem is currently the most successful method for promoting reading fluency, which is essential for text comprehension and enjoyment of reading. The teacher pairs a weaker reader with a stronger reader to form a tandem, where they read the texts aloud and synchronously in multiple rounds. This cooperative learning format alleviates pressure for the weaker reader, leading to quick successes. However, the stronger reader also benefits from the method by closely following the text and correcting even small mistakes. Additionally, the shared, self-directed reading helps develop the children's personal, social, and organizational skills.
