The focus of the first part of this third volume is on the design of mechatronic components, particularly on the feed drives used to generate highly dynamic drive movements in machine tools. It presents design aids for the selection and design of important machine components, the control technology of feed drives, as well as the measurement systems required for position detection. Another focus is on process and diagnostic systems of manufacturing machines and plants.

The second part describes control concepts, including their programming techniques for various application areas of modern production systems. This includes programmable logic controllers, numerical controls, and robot controls. In the context of automated manufacturing systems, the various levels of the automation pyramid and the importance of control systems are also discussed. Finally, the volume addresses the engineering of machines and plants.

The compendium 'Machine Tools Manufacturing Systems' has been completely revised. The previously five-volume series is now consolidated into three volumes with continuous color illustrations in the new 9th edition.
