WerkstattGeschichte is a journal that reflects on history and its protagonists as well as on historical research and writing. It offers space to break through conventional perspectives and try out new forms of representation. The journal remains committed to social history, but emphasises the importance of questioning "big history" from an everyday historical perspective. Issue 89, edited by Hanno Balz, is dedicated to the power of colour in racist and gendered discourses. The articles analyse how certain colours were historically perceived and used in the interplay of their materiality and symbolism to generate meaning, shape social relationships or mark difference.
