WerkstattGeschichte

WerkstattGeschichte is a magazine that reflects on history and its actors as well as on historical research and writing. It provides space to break conventional perspectives and experiment with new forms of representation. The magazine remains committed to social history but places a strong emphasis on questioning grand history from an everyday historical perspective. Issue 89, edited by Hanno Balz, is dedicated to the power of colors in racist and gendered discourses. The contributors analyze how certain colors, in the interplay of their materiality and symbolism, have been historically perceived and used to generate meaning, shape social relationships, or mark differences.
