Learning workshop for interdisciplinary and action-oriented social studies - 3rd / 4th grade. Plastic whirlpools, space debris, recycling – what does this have to do with me? One of the most pressing issues in our society, prepared for teaching / Education for Sustainable Development starting from the 3rd grade. In this workshop, the connections between personal consumption and waste behavior are examined. The topics include basic and optional needs, the influence of advertising on consumption and purchasing behavior, as well as the challenges of globalization with selected goods and products. Regarding waste issues, the focus is on exploring material cycles and possibilities for waste reduction, particularly concerning plastic waste. The broadly diversified approach allows for a comprehensive engagement with the topic. Children learn that they can influence these areas even as consumers and develop ways to act sustainably. As in all volumes of the workshop series, children engage with the topic not only at the level of social studies but also through calculation, creative design, and literature. Three workshop components enable a holistic open teaching approach: research, workshop tasks, and collaborative phases. Content: 136 pages with 25 workshop tasks – including task cards, worksheets, work and play templates (as copy templates and partly colored, cardboard inserts), 5 prepared research assignments, teaching notes, factual information and media tips, workshop pass, as well as reflection and control sheets.
