Summary:
Rudolf Steiner and the anthroposophy he developed are known worldwide, and the anthroposophical movement operates on all continents. This has led to a growing interest in the history of the anthroposophical movement and the lives of its pioneers, among whom is Ita Wegman. Born in 1876 in Java (Indonesia), she studied medicine in Zurich and Munich from 1906 to 1911. In 1921, she founded the hospital in Arlesheim, which still exists today under the name Ita Wegman Clinic. From late 1923 to 1935, she served on the board of the Anthroposophical Society, led the Medical Section of the Free School for Spiritual Science, and was active in promoting the new medical movement and anthroposophical curative education until her death on March 4, 1943. A pivotal moment in her life was her encounter with Rudolf Steiner. Although she met him in 1902, their closer collaboration did not begin until 1923, and it became extraordinarily intense, allowing Steiner to involve her as a co-author of the book "Fundamentals for an Extension of Healing Art Based on Spiritual Scientific Insights.".
