Those with four months to spare can afford the luxury of a gradual approach rather than flying over everything. No asceticism, no hardships on the inland ice, no survival training in the tundra. The author is drawn to the North, but also to good food, and prefers to sleep in a cabin rather than a tent when in doubt. The journey begins with the first cotton grass bloom in Greenland in early June. This is followed by a hike through the petrified forests of Spitsbergen and a day trip (almost to) the North Pole.
