Coming in July. Kilian Wenger, born in 1990, became one of the youngest wrestling kings in history at the age of 20. However, the Bernese athlete also had to face the darker sides of a successful sports career. Overnight, he had to present himself very maturely in public. This overwhelmed him as much as it did his family, who had led a modest life in the secluded Diemtigtal. Wenger became a relatable star – and a favorite among mothers-in-law. Suddenly, the apprentice carpenter, who was paid by the hour, could earn several hundred thousand francs a year. At times, he didn’t even know how it was happening. But Wenger underwent a maturation process that made him one of the most popular wrestlers of his generation. He announced his retirement in August 2024.
