Through her mother's introduction, a 17-year-old girl meets and appreciates an elderly couple. Soon, a thoughtful exchange about God and the world develops, becoming more intense with each visit. Karoline has finally found grandparents who love her, and whom she loves in return. One day, she comes to visit the old couple with her friend Anna.

Harald Müller, born in 1945, is a retired primary school educator. As someone who was born not only during the years of hunger but also during the years of silence, I strive to learn more about that time through my research. Knowing the past—our collective past—without getting entangled in it or glorifying it is of utmost importance for our present lives. Only by understanding the past can I properly comprehend the present, and perhaps then I can shape the future better.
