How the Optimal Fit Between Person and Sports Activity Can Be Achieved in Practice
Although the positive health effects of physical activity are widely known, many people struggle to start and maintain a sports routine. To promote regular participation in sports, it is important to recognize that both people and sports are very diverse. The goal is therefore to create the best possible fit between the individual and the sports activity. In particular, a person's motivations (e.g., social interaction in sports) and the incentives of a sports activity (e.g., camaraderie in football) should be aligned. This can be achieved through the development of tailored sports offerings, the adjustment or expansion of existing sports programs, or the provision of individual sports counseling. If an optimal fit is achieved in this way, we feel comfortable during sports and are more likely to stick with it.
In this book, experts in adult sports and health promotion, professionals in rehabilitation, as well as students and educators in sports science will find answers to the following questions:
What motivations for participating in sports exist and how can they be identified?
How can people be grouped based on their motivations?
How can I determine sports types?
How can an optimal fit between a person's motivations and the incentives of a sports activity be established?.
