Product details
Before Goethe and Schiller became the legendary pair of friends of Weimar Classicism, who visited each other almost daily and exchanged ideas not only on literature, but also on philosophy and science, helping and motivating each other, they were rivals. Their first meeting on 7 September 1788 changed this way of thinking. What later united the two former rivals was their joint work on their own oeuvre - the declared purpose of this friendship was to promote and enhance each other in an intensive exchange of thoughts and feelings. When Schiller died in 1805, an epoch came to an end for Goethe. The relationship had become so close that Goethe thought he had lost half of his life, even himself, when Schiller died - as he wrote in a letter to Carl Friedrich Zelter. Our 35th volume contains the most beautiful poems and ballads by these two most important lyricists of the German language. Poems from their ten years together in Weimar as well as from the creative phase before 1794 and poems by Goethe after the death of Friedrich Schiller in 1805.
