We
German, Evgeny Samyatin, 2013Product details
Evgenij Samjatin is considered the anti-utopian who collided most harshly with the political system in his homeland. The publication of a short version of the utopia "We," which took place in 1927 in Russian in Prague, forced Samjatin to flee to Paris, where he died ten years later. The novel "We" was published abroad in various languages in 1924, but it wasn't until 1988 that the work appeared in the Soviet Union in its complete Russian version. This work can be regarded as the first major anti-utopia, which served as a template for the dystopias of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, among others.
