The collected volume discusses previously open points in the didactic context arising from the tension between system, norm, and use of punctuation, which can be categorized around the question of the obligatory and optional nature of punctuation marks. It primarily addresses questions relevant to secondary education and teacher training: How can we reflect on the use of punctuation? How can we classify and systematize errors? What conclusions about punctuation competence can be drawn from errors? What challenges arise when correcting punctuation marks? What specific features do the semicolon and dash bring? The volume includes both theoretical and empirical contributions that utilize various research methods. Methodological transparency is regarded as a guiding principle for the empirical contributions, aiming for comparability of results with other studies.
