Grammatical skills are essential prerequisites for successful acquisition of written language and thus for educational success and participation in society. At the same time, the conditions for the acquisition of grammatical skills vary for children in their language environment. Therefore, it is fundamental, especially for children with German as a second language or little first language input, to create targeted offers to support grammar acquisition in day care centres and primary schools in order to provide all children with as broad a basis as possible for coping with school and social language demands. With this handbook, we want to give educators, teachers and support staff in the field of language concrete assistance on how children's grammatical learning can be supported casually, but at the same time in a targeted way, with specific, linguistically structured picture books in everyday integrated language support or in primary school lessons. We see a great opportunity in children's literature to provide a playful, motivating, but at the same time systematic access to grammar for children. For children who already have well-developed grammatical skills, the materials can also be used to expand their linguistic knowledge. Thus, picture books are also useful to use in lessons with heterogeneous groups. The handbook accompanies six picture books that were designed and evaluated in the research project 'Litkey'. It includes numerous implementation possibilities (songs, games, worksheets) for the use of the Litkey picture books in kindergarten, primary school and language support.
