This book will focus on the effects that emigration can have on the home countries of migrants. Given the lack of very detailed literature on emigration for individual countries, emigration will be examined on a general level. Insights from labor economics literature on emigration will be integrated, as this is the main channel through which emigration affects the migrants' home countries. Both short- and medium-term as well as long-term aspects will be considered. Consequently, it will analyze the theoretical ideas underlying the existing literature in more depth. A section will also be dedicated to the phenomenon of remittances, acknowledging that this is another channel through which emigration can influence the home countries of migrants and that it could be the subject of further investigation.
