Today, no serious study of Chinese philosophy is possible without being aware of the reinterpretation of classical Chinese sources with the help of Western terminology, which Chinese-language philosophy also devoted itself to tirelessly in the 20th century. This brings into play a dynamic interaction between the old and the new, the Eastern and the Western, which goes beyond the comparative relationship of more or less stable - national, cultural, linguistic - identities and necessitates the elaboration of alternative, transcultural perspectives. The significance of such a turning point is analysed in the first part of the book in a discussion with the currently most influential interpreter of "Chinese thought": François Jullien. The second part pursues this line further with an in-depth examination of the current, conflicting interpretations of the "Zhuangzi".
