Product details

Meret Oppenheim's career began in the early 1930s when she became the muse of the surrealists around André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, and Alberto Giacometti in Paris. She quickly developed into an independent artist. By 1936, she created her legendary "Fur Cup," which made her world-famous. Her artistic work, poetry, and dream recordings have lost none of their freshness over the years, as every retrospective and publication (most recently "Dreams") proves anew. "Why I Love My Shoes" brings together sketches and designs for fashion, jewelry, and accessories. Whether buttons, variety show lingerie, belts, rings, bangles, earrings, gloves, collars, scarves, or wallpaper patterns, Meret Oppenheim always focuses on the spontaneously sketched idea - which is occasionally realized. During her years in Paris, she was able to produce some of her designs.
