Product details

The Via Sett leads in seven stages from Chur to Lenzerheide, through Surses to Bivio and over the Septimer Pass into the Bergell region to Chiavenna. Even in Roman times, the Septimer was one of the most significant Alpine crossings. In the Middle Ages, the pass brought wealth to the Bishop of Chur. Kings, armies, pilgrims, and traders crossed the Alps via the Septimer. This hiking guide includes not only information about the history and present of the Septimer route but also a comprehensive service section. Background reports from experts, including insights into the historical significance of the Septimer and the three linguistic and cultural regions, provide well-founded perspectives. There is much to discover, including the old towns of Chur and Chiavenna, the Churwalden monastery church, and Parc Ela – the largest nature park in Switzerland with the sun-drenched high valley of Surses, once the workplace of Giovanni Segantini. In the Bergell, you can find the historic pass village of Casaccia, the studio of Giovanni Giacometti in Stampa, or the Roman dam "Müraia" near Promontogno. The spectacular roaring waterfalls of Acquafraggia and the glacier mills in the "Marmitte dei Giganti" park near Chiavenna are also highlights. Whether it's air-dried Bündnerfleisch in the Churwaldnertal, a soppa da giotta in Surses, or a piece of Mascarplin in the Bergell, the Via Sett also offers culinary delights.
