German, Margret BechlerProduct details
Margret Bechler was the wife of German Major Bernhard Bechler. Captured in Stalingrad, he joined the National Committee for a Free Germany. His wife, urged to divorce him, stood by him and was vilified by the Nazis. After the war, she was accused of being partially responsible for the execution of an underground fighter. She was arrested, went through prisons and camps, was sentenced to death, and was only pardoned in 1956. Her book is a compelling and credible document of our time, written factually and without hatred. Better than in a history book, it reveals the problems and confusions that people can find themselves in due to war and its aftermath.
