Music-related actions do not take place in isolation but benefit from the exchange of ideas. Whether through collaborative efforts, larger networks, or mutual inspirations: relationships—within families or in freely chosen communities—can open up creativity and avenues for action, but they can also restrict, influence perceptions, and shape artistic actions. This volume examines the significance of various forms of relationships for music cultural actions from the early modern period to the late 20th century. The contributions create a panorama of music-related affinities—from artistic collaborations, romantic relationships, and family structures to shared living arrangements.
