Wagnis und Fügung

In 1935, when the political will to repress the Christian churches became blatantly obvious in the National Socialist Third Reich, 17-year-old Heinz Eduard Tödt dared to make the decision in favour of theology. The way his life then unfolded, even through danger and suffering, made him gratefully marvel. This spirit was later conveyed through his academic teaching. Pastor Albert Schäfer, a student in Heidelberg in 1968, wrote to Ilse Tödt in 2012, who is bringing her late husband's memoirs to print here, that "Wagnis und Fügung" makes clear the "hermeneutic circle of ethical judgement" in situations that demand decisions, which he and his fellow students learned from Heinz Eduard Tödt in critical times.
