Private Intelligence

In contrast to private military contractors, the activities of private intelligence agencies remain largely enigmatic. Although some incidents from this gray area have made it into the media in Germany in recent years, the origins, extent, and structures of this booming industry are unknown in this country - the sector maintains a discreet profile. This book provides an overview not only of the historical development of traditional service providers but also of the intelligence structures of sects and organized crime, as well as former journalists and civil servants. It describes the massive outsourcing of intelligence services, the consequences of which are unpredictable and far removed from any democratic oversight.
