The context of early childhood education is currently experiencing a boom in educational policy. It is attributed with the potential to significantly contribute to the reduction of educational inequality in Germany. This ethnographic study claims to contribute to the empirical foundation of debates that have so far been more programmatic in nature. It explores the significance of power- and inequality-relevant distinctions in early childhood. With a post-structuralist informed approach focusing on practice and subject theory, it examines the interpersonal practices of children. These practices are interrogated as relevant positioning practices in terms of how difference is (re)produced within them.
