Child poverty in Germany is on the rise. Alongside material deprivation, an inner state of distress is almost unnoticed, which can affect even children and adolescents in material wealth, manifesting in forms of neglect, deterioration, and self-neglect. The inner world becomes unhinged when compassion and attention are lacking. This leads to feelings of overwhelm, disorientation, and instability. Thomas Müller illustrates the external and internal connections as well as the entanglements of poverty and wealth in various movements and effects. He offers educational approaches that can lead to new perspectives in addressing the inner poverty of children and adolescents.
