Flüchten oder Bleiben?

Sylke Bartmann illustrates different approaches to National Socialism and the associated reprisals and threats through the reconstruction of the biographical trajectories of emigrants. The focus is on the individual as an actor and shaper of their own life. The question is addressed to what extent resources emerge in the processes of biographization that allow life under National Socialism to still appear coherent and meaningful, even when the individual sometimes seems to face a world devoid of meaning. The author contributes to the understanding of the subjective perception and individual coping mechanisms of the person in relation to National Socialism.
