Product details
Radio and television are not functioning markets. This is because, in the reception market, there is not even a real transaction: listeners and viewers do not pay for the use of broadcasts. More specifically, their payments do not reach the broadcasters. This disruption is responsible for a whole range of performance deficits attributed to the broadcasting market, from quality loss and homogenization of programming to advertising-driven journalism and ratings fixation. Martin Werle points out which factors impair the functionality of the reception market and how strengthening market mechanisms between broadcasters and their audience could reduce or even eliminate these deficits.
