In light of the increasing political significance of human rights discourse within the European Union and following the adoption of the General Equal Treatment Act, the engagement with discrimination is gaining social and political relevance. The term 'discrimination' is also increasingly used in academic debates, particularly in discussions surrounding right-wing extremism and racism, gender-based disadvantage, the situation of disabled and elderly individuals, as well as in discourses on diversity and heterogeneity. However, in the German-speaking world, independent research on discrimination has only developed in its early stages.
