Vrenelis Gärtli

Vreneli is not like other children. Strange rumors about its parents circulate in the valley, and when the mother dies early, it is said that the father has made a pact with evil forces. Vreneli is to be sent away from him to school, but it prefers to learn the shady craft of magic and roams the rugged mountains and glaciers in the form of a little red fox. After rescuing the daughter of a wealthy manufacturer from the captivity of a sorcerer, the sorcerer pursues it with rage and determination. Soon after, Vreneli meets the orphan boy Melk, a young herdsman, a child of the Quatember like itself, and feels a longing it has never known before. However, the sorcerer's curse also puts Melk in danger.
