Product details

Starting out from the revolutionary theatre movements in Latin America in the 1960s and 1970s, whose goal was a process of political awareness to mobilise the popular masses for the democratisation of the countries, the Theatre of the Oppressed, founded by Augusto Boal, has changed since its inception, also and especially in view of changing world views and the changes that have occurred since then in the social sphere and in the conditions of production. In 2003, the Theatre of the Oppressed's Declaration of Principles declared the humanization of humanity itself as its goal. Birgit Fritz examines the development of the Theatre of the Oppressed, especially the connections between its intentions and an aesthetic of perception. She convincingly substantiates her main thesis that Augusto Boal's theater can be seen beyond its original historical.
