The district of Straubing-Bogen is a very liveable region. Its northern part with its wooded mountains and hills is scenically attractive, the south with its fertile soils has provided people with rich harvests for thousands of years, and the towns, markets and communities are pleasant places to live. But the forest harbours unsuspected secrets, the old ruins of former castles and palaces apparently still harbour ghosts from times long past.
