Product details

Emptiness – a word that has two very different poles on the spiritual path. On one hand, it describes the state that many people strive for in their meditation or prayer: being free from thoughts and worries, distractions, and even from one’s own ego, in order to be fully filled by God or whatever one may call the "more in life." On the other hand, it can evoke fear, especially when, after years of spiritual practice, one suddenly feels only emptiness instead of closeness to God. Or in daily life, one realizes that the meaning of their actions has slipped away, and they are merely performing empty rituals, whether in their personal life or at work. These two poles may initially seem contradictory. However, when viewed on a deeper level, they are rooted in an existential longing for fullness, for something greater than ourselves. The prerequisite for finding this fullness is that we are willing to confront our inner emptiness. Anselm Grün shows in this book how to allow times of emptiness and leisure, and ultimately to enjoy them in the process of grappling with the feeling of emptiness.
