Product details

Every year, millions of people are drawn to the colourful capital city of Berlin, whether to visit the metropolis or to settle down here. They are attracted by Berlin's cultural diversity and rich history. But what is really Berlin, what actually makes Berlin Berlin? Hardly anyone these days knows what a Bumskeule is, what the expression "Een Kiek und een Ei" is all about or why there is no Adenauerdamm in Berlin. The two original Berliners Jan Eik and Horst Bosetzky - one a native of East Berlin, the other a self-confessed West Berliner - have made it their mission to promote knowledge about true Berlin culture. In around 1200 keywords, they define what is truly typical of their beloved home city. With a good portion of humour and a twinkle in their eyes, they let loose about famous sights such as the "Allex", curiosities such as the egg drive or well-known personalities such as Kurt Tucholsky. The author duo, who have been friends for a long time, manage to wrap up Berlin's history, culture and unculture in amusing stories and reveal many a secret about the city.
