This book is aimed at all open-minded individuals who are willing to reflect on and engage in play. It does not seek to position itself as a game theory book, but rather aims to convey fundamental knowledge about games in an understandable way. It is not intended to be read as a philosophical treatise on play, but it does wish to present some thoughtful reflections on the why and purpose of playing. It should not be understood as a pedagogical guide to games, but it aims to provide assistance in understanding, discovering, and organizing games. It does not intend to be a collection of games, but it seeks to offer a variety of game examples as inspiration for personal game designs. It does not wish to limit itself to creative games, but it will focus on games that can be easily created with simple means and little effort. It does not aim to provide game recipes.
