Product details
This monograph traces the introduction and implementation of Jewish badges in the Islamic cultural sphere and the Christian countries of Central Europe. It particularly examines the initial introduction of these stigmas under Caliph al-Mutawakkil in the 9th century. The decisions of the Fourth Lateran Council of 1215 and their interpretation mark the beginning of Jewish badges in Christian Europe. This historical line reaches its most inhumane peak with the Star of David in the Third Reich. Did Joseph Goebbels draw on medieval models when introducing the Star of David? Were the bishops in the Middle Ages aware of the Islamic badges for Jews? Could it be a coincidence that all three stigmas were yellow?.
