School of Seeing for Children
For the first time, the Museum of Photography opens its doors specifically for children: Around 160 works illustrate the uses, design, and forms of expression of photography from its beginnings to the present day. Artists like Lyonel Feininger and Hannah Höch already bridged the gap between childhood and imaginative perception in some of their works. Accordingly, ten associative chapters in the book aimed at children and young people (as well as their parents) offer a colorful array of images and stories. They touch on themes such as finding, collecting, and telling stories about images, reading numbers, letters, or clouds, discoveries in everyday life, at school, and while traveling, natural events in city and countryside, family ties, and/or portrait machines. Color, light, mirror, or material play are just as present as the mysterious, with fun alternating with seriousness. A selection of print graphics, drawings, and three-dimensional object representations complements the publication, which focuses on the concrete and sensual materiality of original photographs and aims to offer a school of seeing. Special exhibition of the Art Library of the State Museums of Berlin, Museum of Photography, Berlin, 9/10/2022 - 19/2/2023.
