Bachelor thesis from the year 2020 in the subject area social work / social work, grade: 1,3, Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg, language: German, abstract: 1,5 to 3 million children and adolescents in Germany grow up with at least one mentally ill parent. These children belong to a risk group because they are exposed to excessive stress in the home environment. While the adults mostly find support in psychotherapy, the children are usually left alone. What help can social workers offer the children? Our author examines exactly which psychological risks children with mentally ill parents are exposed to. For this purpose, she analyses three widespread clinical pictures: Schizophrenia, affective disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She places special emphasis on how children experience their parents' illness and how it affects them in their lives. The book examines the topic in a true-to-life manner from an empirical perspective and presents the exact circumstances of different children. In addition, the author looks at coping strategies that can offer children a way out and points out various offers of help. This book addresses a socially and educationally important topic from a psychological perspective. From the contents: - Resilience, - Vulnerability, - Coping, - Social pedagogy, - Childhood, - Counselling processes.
