Via Glaralpina

Opened in the summer of 2019, the Via Glaralpina is a diverse and partly challenging long-distance hiking trail around the Glarnerland region. It connects the three municipalities of Glarus Nord, Glarus, and Glarus Süd, covering approximately 230 hiking kilometers and 18,000 meters of elevation gain and loss. The Via Glaralpina leads to 20 peaks and includes over 30 huts, hotels, and guesthouses in the canton, divided into 19 stages. It follows yellow, white-red-white, and white-blue-white marked trails from alpine greenery up to the mountain landscapes and even glacier worlds of Glarnerland. The hiking guide presents the Via Glaralpina for the first time in book form. Each stage is illustrated and accompanied by informative maps. The book describes the scenic, geological, botanical, and cultural highlights of the respective locations and trail sections through images and text. It offers an opportunity to discover and explore a region that is still somewhat hesitantly perceived as a tourist destination, yet is extremely attractive and located close to the Zurich metropolitan area.
